POLICEMAN’S HOUSE BLOWN UP

About 2 o’clock this morning residents of Greymouth wore awakened by a terrifying explosion. It proved one of the most dastardly deeds perpetrated id the Dominion for some years. High explosive was placed in the house of Senior-Sergeant Simpson, of the Police Force. The house resembles a building that has been bombed. SerfeaSit Simpson says ho was awakened y the explosion, the swaying, of the building, and the sound of falling glass. The kitchen was a scene ot chaos, the walls being, shattered. Solid shelves were torn out of position and the- windows blown clean out. Airs. Simpson and an infant were sleeping in a room adjoining, anij were saved from the force of the explosion by a cupboard in the kitchen-bedroom wall. The charge was evidently placed at an angle forward of the kitchen,-chimney and wall. High explosive was need. It shattered the bench and sink anti splintered the chimney. The charge was fired by a time fuse. A large charge was used. The inmates escaped' injury. Airs. Simpson is. suffering from shock.
