SAD FATALITY AT MOTUROA.

WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT’S DEATH. A sad accident occurred at Moturoa on Saturday night, resulting in the death of Mr. Ralph Crawshaw, a wellknown and highly respected resident of New Plymouth. It appears that deceased, together with W. B. Kivell, C. V. Russell and Richard Williams, had arranged to, go out to the Inter’s lahnch on Saturday night, spend' the night on the ofalt, and leave early on Sunday morning to go fishing. Accordingly they left the beach about 10.15 in a dinghy, also belonging to Williams, - the latter rowing out in the direction of the launch. The sea was slightly choppy, but everything went well until they were within seven or eight yards cf the nearest launch lying at anchor.in the harbour. Then, the dinghy suddenly swamped and sank Deceased, being a swimmer, commenced, swimming towards Mr. Newton'King’s launch, just a few yards away. When he was close alongside the launch he sang out, but his companions could not toll what ho said. Russell was unable to swim, but be succeeded in getting bold of the partly submerged dinghy, and Kivell and Williams, who were both swimmers, managed to get Rusgell and the dinghy to another launch, belonging to Mr. T!round. When they were all aboard they called out to Crawshaw, but got no response, and so lighted, the dinghy and rowed about looking tor- deceased, whom they found floating face downwards in, the water a couplo of yards away from Mr. King’s launch. IJe was immediately brought ashore and artificial respiration attempted. Dr. Blackley and Constable Blnikie were promptly on the scene-? and artificial respiration was continued for some time, but without avail, and the body was conveyed to the morgue. > .... He was a married man, and leaves a widow and four children, who will hate the sympathy of a large circle of friends in ■their sad bereavement.
