Tho French Government has suppressed the old privilege of tho peasant class of the right to distil for private consumption. Enormous advantage had been taken of the privilege, fully a million peasants distilling brandy and other spirituous liquors from the fruit crop. A reduction in the number of public-houses is also contemplated. A NEW RANGE-FINDER. LONDON, Sept. 11. Padre Alfani, director of tho Florence Observatory, has invented an aerial range-finder which permits of bombthrowing with a mathematical certainty of hitting the target at any speed and from any height.
