THE MINISTRY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your lady correspondent of Omata, E. A. Mathews, pays a high tribute to the Hon. W. F. Massey and his colleagues. She saya—“Never, since history began, have tho British Empire and tho Dominion of Now Zealand liad greater need of brains than in tho present time of stress.” Sir, this is an absolutely true statement. Ever since tho Premier took office ho has had to face strife and stress. And, be it said to his honour, ho has steered tho brave yacht New Zealand right woU. Seeing the strain tho Ministry havo had to bear, 1 do not think anyone need bo anxious as to their mental qualifications. I have‘known the Hon. W. F. Massey too long to believe ho will sail with any others than Ins own tried and trustworthy crew, and X feel sure ho will not take a trip to Omata for advico as to his arrangements. There is a truly terrible task before tho rulers, and they don’t need, prodding with a bayonet.—l am, etc., SPEARGRASS.
