NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.

ENTRIES EASILY A RECORD. Preparations for the big winter event at Palmerston North are now in full swing and the showgrounds ami buildings _havo assumed that air of bustle which is inseparable from the place at show time. Tho secretary advises that tho entries are a record, being some 225 ahead of last year. To show the expansion of this show, tho present year's entries exceed those of 1911 by 1620. These figures refer to competitive exhibits only, and do not include tho exhibits of machinery and various other details shown on the many stands and stalls. Tho demand for space under tho latter headings has exceeded any previous year, and ns a consequence many applicants remain unsatisfied. The committee arc faced with tho position that much more space is required, notwithstanding the fact that another 1500 square feet lias boon added recently. The total space available under cover now approximates 55,000 square feet. In addition to the groat number of exhibits contained in the buildings, largo numbers, such as motor exhibits, now avail themselves of tents, etc., on the grounds, to say nothing of side-shows, which are yearly increasing in number. A feature to bo introduced for tho first time this year is a fruit-grading and packing competition, which will be held on the second and .third days of the show. A new and separate division has also been created for tho enOuuragoment of honey producers. Tho Manawatu Poultry Exhibition, has a largo increase of entries this year, the anticipation of which fully justifies tho recent extension of the poultry hall by 2.5 feet. There should bo something like 1020 birth for tho public to inspect, most of these being tho pick of the Dominion’s poultry yards. Special attention has been drawn to tho grand demonstration by tho schools to be given on the first day. A real treat is in store for visitors on that day, as there is to bo a physical drill display by some 800 children, a crowd that is jiist about able to manoeuvre on the oval. The other three days are well provided for in tho way of outside sports, and everything points to an extraordinarily successful event.
