ENTERTAINMENTS.

“THE CHARFRON.” M'hen the Beaumont Smith ami Leslie Hoskins “Glad Kye” Cmnpuny produced “Ilie Chaperon" iu Wellington, the question arose as to whether the .second of the course was not more refreshing than the first. The outstanding feature of “Tho Chaperon” is that the interest of its plot grows as it is unfolded. With the average farcical comedy the writer explodes his jolte iu the first act, continues it successfully through a second, hut in the third it peters out. Not so with “The Chaperon.” The first act is good. Hie second art is Letter, while tho third, with additional fun. brings tho whole to a bright and logical conclusion. But however spicy the comedy is, there is no question it is owing to the superlative merits of the actors ami the actresses engaged that it is so continually humorous. It is a great feat for a farcical comedy company to wreck the sides of an audience with laughter for two and n-half hours, but the company accomplish it. “The Chaperon“ will he played at the Theatre Royal. New Plymouth, on Thursday. Juno 21, and the box plan opens immediately at Collier’s.
