HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital ami Chari table Aid Board was held io-day, when there wore present: —Mr. F. C. J. Bellringer (chairman). Mrs. Doc-krill, Messrs. A. E. Sykes, E. Maxwell, M. J, Mncßcy : nolds. D. M'Alium. J. Brown, A. 11. Halcombe, D. H. M'Donakl, J. R. Hill and Cl. V. Tate. HEALTH INSPECTOR. The acting health inspector (Mr. C. M. Lcppor) reported that during tho period from May 10 to June Id he had visited Tikoiangi. Three cases of infectious disease had been notified, all of diphtheria at Waitara. He had made throe investigations and performed three disinfections. THE HOSPITAL. The medical superintendent. Dr. E. A. Walker, reported that during the month Do patients were admitted to the hospital, 50 had boon discharged, 5 had died, and there now remained in the institution 61 patients. Tho highest number for any one day was 61. These had been 34 operations. Dr. Walker remarked that tho month had been a busy one in all departments, and tho staff had responded well to all requirements, OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. The matron, Mrs. Parly, reported that everything had progressed favourably during the month. The supplies had been very good, and the discipline excellent, with the exception of four :ascs, which were dealt, with by tho chairman. There had been four admissions—two from Hnwera, one from Kaponga, and one from Opunake—one departure, and two deaths. * Remaining in the .institution, there were now 28 males and 5 females. URUTI NURSE’S TELEPHONE. The Inspector-General notified that tlie Postal Department could not agree Lo the request that the telephone at the nurse’s residence at I'ruti ho connected it night, ns it would not permit private telephones to bo connected direct to the main line out of office hours. It also dated that the telephonist lived on the premises and communication could be obtained at any time. Mr. W. Old wrote pointing out that die postmistress lived over a mile from die post office, and .suggested that the lifficulty might he got over hr having die nurse sworn in the some as any it’ner official. Under present conditions die tclenhono at the cottage was little aottcr than a farce. The hoard decided to continue their mdeavours in the matter. PROBATIONERS.
