(Received May 4, 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE,-May 4. The Commonwealth imports for the nine months ended April decreased by £13.256,000, and the exports decreased by £24.090,000. THE WHEAT SHORTAGE. (Received May 4. 12.15 p.ni.) SYDNEY, May 4. Air. Hall states that the shortage of wheat, as disclosed by actual returns compared with the estimates makes importation necessary. Steps have already been taken to have 100,000 bushels loaned to New Zealand raturned. A SEVERE EARTHQUAKE. (Received May 4, 10.25 a.in.) SYDNEY, May 4. The seismograph at Rivcrview yesterday afternoon recorded another earthquake, the movement being three times more severe than that on Saturday. The peculiar movement of the waves made it difficult to localise, but it is believed that it was in the Tonga region. RELIEF WORKS AT NEWCASTLE. (Received May 4, 10,25 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 4. Relief works are starting at Newcastle to assist the large number of miners made idle through the slackness in the coal trade. LOSS OF THE ENDEAVOUR. (Received May 4, 10.25 a.m.) -MELBOURNE, May 4. The Marine Court found that the lost trawler Endeavour was sufficiently officered, manned, and properly equipped to be seaworthy. COMMONWEALTH PENSIONERS. (Received May 4, 10.25 a.m.) .MELBOURNE, May 4. There are D 0,335 old age and 19,446 invalid pensioners in the Commonwealth involving a weekly payment of £54,000.
