STRATFORD.
FROM ODR HESInr.NT AGENT. April 2S.—Air, J. W. Boon is the Alayor-cloct by a thumping majority over his opponent, Air. Morison. The poll was a small one, owing partly to the wet weather and more to the lack of interest the burgesses have shown in tho contest. Mr. Boon favours a loan for street improvements, an extension of the sewerage system at the expense of those who are able to lake advantage of it, and a friendly approach to tho Electrical Supply Company with, the view of acquiring the plant. In the face of a calamity'like tho death of Air. Pearce on the mountain, it is natural that people should look for some means for preventing the like, and it has, perhaps unfortunately, become natural to many to at once favour the adoption of penal deterrents. . 'The rider that the coroner’s jury added to their verdict was, howe.ver, unpractical on the face of it. To enforce a prohibition against climbing the mountain without official guide or sanction would nocxl an army of police. The most that can be done is to impress upon the public the dangers attending a solitary climb in any weather.
