At the inquiry into the Omrah's mislian the pilot said the port engine was ordered to go full speed astern, hut apparently the engines were put the wrong way and the speed of tho ship was not checked until she struck the wharf. He considered it might he a risky thing to hold tile vessel for threequarters of an hour on the flood tide. Garret, fourth engineer, stated that as far as he knew ho worked the engine ns directed by the telegraph. He evidently had made a mistake and put tho engine ahead instead of astern.
