Mr D Ginger, a member of the very old Taranaki family of that name, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. Harry .Wright, of the 11 ail way Department, Wanganui, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. Kasner. of Rohntii, has bought the freehold of the Ellham Hotel, and will take over possession from Mr. tham in a month.

At the meeting of the Education Board to-day. a resolution was carried sympathising with Mr. E. Marrell on the death of his son.

Mr X. K. MacDiarraid received a wire -on Tuesday evening stating that his son. Dr. Gordon Mapßiarmid. had been offered the. position of senior house surgeon in Christchurch Hospital, and that he had accepted it.

There are many among our readers who will regret to hear of the death., which occurred yesterday, of Mrs. \S. H. Bullot. Her maiden name was Grufitbs, and she was a native of Liverpool, and we believe came out to Nelson as a child. For several years she looked after the afternoon teas. etc., for the New Plymouth Golf and Tennis C hibs, and was much liked and respected by the members.

Master Leon is the New Zealand champion boy vocalist, and Miss May has the honour of winning the elocution junior championship, boys or girls under 16 years, for two years in -succession. They have won 31. first prizes in two years Dunedin, -Invercargill, Christchurch, Wellington, and- Auckland, and their performance at The 191 n Christchurch competitions, as follows, speaks volumes for the training they received at the hands of their teacher. Miss 0. Hejen Gard’ner: — First, boys 5 champion elocution, under 16 years; -first girls’ champion elocution, under 16 years; first, boys 7 tost piece, under 16 years; first, girls’ test piece under 12 years: first, boys’ or girls’ character recital, under 14 years; first, boys’ song; test piece, under 16 years; first, boys’ or girls’ action song, under 12 .years; first, boys’ or girls’ character -song, under 14 year*: first, junior championship elocution, boys’ or girls’ under 16 years (second year in succession.)
