THE ELECTIONS.

NEW PLYMOUTH. ■With the keen interest which has been aroused in connection with the .half-holiday question it war. anticipated that there would he a fairly heavy poll at the elections to-day, but up to mid-day matters had been very quiet at the respective booths. There are three issues before the electors, the Mayoralty, the election of local representatives on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Beard, and the half-holiday. For the Mayoralty there arc two candidates in the field, Mr. J. E. Milson, the retiring Mayor, and Mr. G. «. Browne, who has also formerly held office. There are ‘five candidates for the three seats on the Hospital Board, 'Mrs. Dockrill, and Messrs. I. C- ,1. Bellringer and G. W. Browne (retiring members), and Messrs. A. E. Sykes and -1 E. ; Watkins; and with regard to the weekly half-holidav the question to be decided is as to whether it shall be observed on Thursday as hitherto or whether in future Saturday should be observed. Polling commenced at J ■o’clock- this morning and the booths .will close at 7 p.m. The booths are situated at the Old Drill Hall. Kira-au Street (principal); Public Hall, r itzToy; Coronation Hall. Eliot Street; residence of Mr. G. A. Corner, Devon Street West; Mr. Gordge s Store, Vogel town; Public Hall, Wcstown; Sunday Schoolhouse Frankleigk PM■: Gymnasium, Public School Grounds. St. ■Aubyn; Sundav Schoolhouse, Moturoa. Mr. F. T. Bellringer (town clerk) is acting as returning -officer and ho has made arrangements whereby the remits of the poll will be announced at .ho Old Drill Hall instead of the Town Hall.
