PETROLEUM.
TARANAKI (NEW ZEALAND) OIL WELLS, LTD. Good progress has been made at the Taranaki (New Zealand) Oil Wells, Ltd., works at Moturoa during tho past week. No. 2 has been cleaned and cased to a depth of 2.866 ft.: the original deoth of the well being 3030 ft. At No. 5 the casing has been carried down to a deoth of 2,700 ft. and tho well deepened’ 40ft. Whilst drilling- was proceeding this morning, a strong vein of gas and oil was penetrated and the bore is now active. At the rotary bora work is proceeding satisfactorily and oil is keeping within 200 ft. of the surface.
