In Connection with the -appointment c£ Mr. Thornton, superintendent of the Long Island Railway, to the position of general manager of the Great Eastern Railway, Lord Claud Hamilton, chairman of the-company, says that one of the reasons for Mr. Thornton’s appointment was his knowledge of the elected cal operation of railways, because the suggested change in the system should be confided to a man bringing new ideas.
