THB LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, Sept. 13. Tho ladies’ hockey championship tourney was continued' on Saturday in beautiful weather. There wero about fifteen hundred present. Tho surprise, of tho day was the easy defeat of tho leaders in A section by Wanganui. Results A SECTION. Wanganui G, v. Canterbury I.—Tho first spell finished up with the scores one all, but in the second spell Canterbury wero not in tho running, Wanganui adding five goals to their opponents’ nil. Tho local girls played brilliant hockey. Hawke’s Bay 1, v. Manawatu I. Hawke’s Bay had tho advantage all through this game, but could not head their opponents. Bullor 3, v. Taranaki I.—After a fair game only. B SECTION. Wairarapa 13, v. Wanganui B, nil.— This was a run-over.' Wellington 8, v. Southland nil.— This was tho best game of the day in tlio B section and some good hockey was witnessed. Eketahuna 3, v. West Coast 2.—This was a close game, but not responsible for more than solid play. TARANAKI v. BULLER. SPECIAL TO HERALD. WANGANUI, Sept, 14. Taranaki did not play so well yesterday as they did against Manawatu, and consequently went under to tho Duller team by 3 goals to 1. The Southerners wero tho better team and thoroughly deserved their win. Little interest was taken- in this contest, which was virtually a deciding game for .the wooden spoon in A section. Bullor won tho toss, and commenced by forcing strongly. In a tussle in front of goal Miss Greenland shot Buller’s first goal after about five minutes’ play. Buller wore very strong, and tho play was for some time in Taranaki’s circle. Taranaki wero playing well, however, Buller now forced again, and Miss Cox made the second score. Taranaki now commenced a good passing rush, but were stopped before they became dangerous. Play now changed-ends, and a 25 was obtaiued from this, ■ Bullor attacked strenuously, and a lino savo by Miss Arthur just saved tho situation. Taranaki now forced, but Buller took the ball tho length of the field, and Miss M‘Ray scored Buller’s third goal. A hard tussle now followed in front of tho Taranaki goal; the situation was saved, however, and Taranaki pushed hard up to Buller’s goal. Miss E. King .shot, but wont wide. Tho play was now getting more even. Taranaki was slowly pressing up tho field, putting Buller on the defensive. Miss M‘Ewen, who had recovered enough to play, headed afine rush up tho field, but tho Bullor goalkeeper rushed out and beat her. Taranaki forced from the bully off, but Buller soon retaliated and Miss Arthur was just aide to save, a magnificent effort. Buller wero evidently too good for them, but tho froth hadn’t gone off their attack yet. Again they rushed, but Miss Wilson in goal saved well. Tho play was now up and down, hut Buller still had slightly tho bettor of it. Taranaki forced, however, and in a general scramble Miss Harrop made

Duller made a determined ■ rush, however, and a shot ■right in the goal mouth was just saved by Miss Arthur..
