The Chief Justice, after hearing evidence, directed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty, and accused was discharged. FARMERS’ CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, July 16. The Farmers’ Conference adopted a resolution in favour of restricting the use of pea rifles, and against any Government attempt to nationalise the meat trade.. A large number of delegates were vaccinated as a smallpox precaution. AMERICAN BOY VISITORS. (Received July 17, 11 a.m.) PERTH, July 17. A party of American boys have arrived on a visit to Australia. They were entertained at lunch and accorded a civic reception. They were also the guests of the Government at Parliament House. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REVENUE. (Received July 17, 11 a.m.) ADELAIDE, July 17. The revenue of the State for the year was £4,596,659, and the expenditure £4,787,063. The excess spent was £190,404.
