Suddenly, detectives, with their heads down to protect their faces against male suffragists brandishing sticks and women using hatpins and umbrellas, dashed into a solid group of women, in the centre of which was Miss Kenny. A violent struggle ensued, men and women lining bowled over in attempting to rescue her. Eventually Miss Kenny was forced into a taxi-cab and the detectives drove off amid execration and shouts of “Shame!” from their comrades and from the crowd of women who, with tho detectives, boro evidences of the fray.
