RAILWAYS APPEALS.
SITTING AT WELLINGTON. PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, July 14. The Railway Appeal Board to-day heard tho appeal of H. F. 31. Carr, shunter, of Wellington, against his dismissal from tho service for absenting* himself from duty without leave, and for being under the influence of drink while on duty. Appellant declared that ho received permission to leave work, and while off duty had three drinks as refreshment. The goods foreman gave evidence that appellant looked queer while on duty, and ho then noticed that he was under tho influence of liquor. The assessors (Messrs. C. P. Ryan and D. Dwyer) considered that there w T as a doubt about the question of appellant’s being booked off and about his being under the influence of liquor, and they concluded that ho should have tho benefit of the doubt, and be recommended for reinstatement. The chairman (Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.), dissented from this finding. These findings will be forwarded to tho 3linister of Railways. The appeal of William Noble, clerk at Wellington, against receiving less pay on promotion than another man similarly promoted, was dismissed.
