A CHILD’S DEATH.
THE RESULT OP BURNS. Mr. A. Crooko, S.M., held an inquest at tho Court-house, Now Plymouth, today, concerning the death of a child named Sylvia Eileen James, aged 19 months, who d ; ed f he Now Plymouth Hospital on Thursday. , William James, .ouror, residing at Inglewood, gave evidence of identification. Mabel James, wife of last witness, stated that on Wednesday afternoon she went outside to get some wood to make up the fire, which was burning in tho stove. She left the child inside. There was no one eke in the house. She heard screams and ran inside, finding tho deceased's clothing in flames. These she succeeded in putting out. Tho child was burnt, and she sent for Dr. Gault, who temporarily dressed tho wounds and ordered tho child’s removal to the hospital, where it died yesterday. Tho child was nineteen months old. She had lost her previous child through scalding occasioned, by tho child pulling a saucepan over on top of itself. Dr. Walker, medical superintendent of the New Plymouth Hospital, stated that the child was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday evening suffering from extensive burns on face, ears, neck, chest, alxlomen, both arms, and both legs. She was suffering severely from shook. Death was due to shock following on the burns. It was a hopeless case from tho first. A verdict that deceased died from shock following on hums accidentally received was returned.
