THE DEFENCE ACT.

NO AMENDMENTS CONTEMPLATED. Pfer Press Association. ■WELLINGTON, June 25. It has recently been reported that tho Government intended to introduce ah amendment to tho Defence Act this session “bo place the ibilitary scheme on a more generous scale.” The subject was mentioned to-day to tho Hen. James Allen, Minister of Defence, who replied that no amendment to tho Defence Act was contemplated this session. He would not say that there would not bo further amendments to the Act as time went on and experience showed them to bo necessary. Ho had to boar in mind that tho whole organisation of the scheme was still largely in an experimental stage, and -no doubt need might arise for further legislation as time went on, but, so far as he knew, there would be none this session.
