PACIFIC DEFENCE.

APPEAL TO CANADA. BY MR. JAMES ALLEN, By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. MONTREAL, May 1. Mr. Allen, speaking Canadian Club, said that it seemed strange, as a New Zealander passing through Canada, to find the country divided into Easterners and Westerners. Could New Zealand expect to find Canada onp to stand by her and by the Empire? New Zealand was ready again to aid the Mother Country if she asked for further help. Mr- Allen advocated the importance of preserving British supremacy in the Pacific. New Zealand and Australia alone were unable to protect the Pacific trade route, which must bo kept open. Trade routes wore the bonds of Empire and New Zealand was determined at any sacrifice to keep tnoiu open.
