RAHOTU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

April 20.—The muelntalked-of bazaar in aid of the Rahotu Hal! took place on the 10th and was very successful tram a financial point of view. The nett proceeds were about £l6O, The com mittcc as a whole worked hard, and, I think more praise is duo to the ladies, than the male .portion, as it was very apparent that they showed more business abilities, and it would have been a very ,Hat allair if the management bad becif left to the men. The stall-holders were;—Drapery stall, Mosdamc.s Wright and C. Pcmvarden; fruit and flowers, Mesdam.es Groom and Phillips; drapeiy stall No. 2, Mrs. Thomas and Miss Stevens: lolly stall, Mrs. 11. Hill: bran tub, Mitres Morrow, Willcnx and Phillips; Aunt Sally. Mr. B. Jackson ; ..refreshment tables. MiwLimcs Wiilcby. Phillips (2), Wi'iivru.s, Ward, Fisen •■■■, and Baker. The secretary’s duties were carried out by Mr. A. D. Fielder in a very able manner. Mrs. A. Chapman won tho mid-driving competition, an J Mrs.- A r . U. Wright won tho sawing. Some of the sawing • coinpetitors ctvmp’niued of the state of the saw.

Tho school picnic was held on Hie Recreation Ground on tho 23rd, ami the young fry had a good time, the usual games and races being indulged in. The school committee acted most generously to the children, and more so hi the young ladies’ race, when the second in the above race-was given ns a prize'a box of chocolates and a shilling, and the lady is. iti doubt if the shilling-was to go towards medical 'expenses 'after she had consumed the chocolates. The men’s race',was won by T. H. Phillips, married men’s race by P. AVillcox, married ladies.rape by Mrs. L. Fischer, and spinsters’ race by Miss Corrick. It is reported that Mr. M'Curdie has sold Ids farm on the Ngariki to a Feikling person, whose name has not transpired. AVarr Rangi. who is in the employ of the Road 1 Board, had the misfortune to be dragged by a horse for a short distance along the Kabul Road on the 25th. Rang! is now in a Very bad way, and it is surprising ho was not killed outright. Fortunately tho rope round his leg slipped, and beyond a severe bruising and the loss bf the best part of a pair of pants he thinks lie is most fortunate.

Every season three weeks before the shooting season opens -the district is invaded by an army Of so-called spools or rightly-named poachers running round with ipms in quest of game, and yet though tiie Taranaki Acclimatisation Society , appoint two or more rangers in the' district every season ono never hears of a conviction.
