At ALuingaKaranica last night a meeting ot householders ref used to elect a school committee us a protest against the action ol the Education Board with regard to the appointment ol teachers. At the Whangarei meeting of .householders only nine, wore present, and they elected themselves a. committee. TTKORANGI. April 2S.—Tito annual mooting of householders this evening nuts attended hy ten persons—not a ; largo number, certainly, hut still a record for this district.' Thus.it'must ho simply parental indifference and it is , to ' bo regretted that more do not interest them-, selves, notwithstanding the fact that the committee’s duties are nowadays limited ,to buying tlui firewood and cleaning the school and outhouses. ’The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year, viz.;—Messrs, 1 0. Foreman, H. Foreman, .1. 11. Allen, 7.. Vickery, G. Wills, J. Smart, and L. Fanil. At a.meeting of the committee considerable difficulty was found in appointing a chairman, the ‘‘honour” being declined hy one and all. Ultimate ly Mr. J-. 11. Allen was the loser of the toss of a coin and .was appointed chair man. Tho chairman and Mr. Wills were appointed to sign cheques, and if was decided to hold 'meetings monthly. Other routine business was tr>nsnctod and the meeting adjourned for tho “moon.” WAITARA. April 2f5.—-The householders’ meeting for the purpose of electing a committee for the ensuing year .was, hold in tlie school-room on Monday evening. There were-about twenty householders present. Thirteen were. nominated lor the committee and .as only, nine Were required a ballot was necessary, which resulted in the following being elected:—Mosdanies Jenkins and Trim, and Messrs. Weston, Davidson, Wakely, Ford, Dowsctt, -Arms and Trim. The committee, met afterwards for tho purpose of electing officers. Mr. 11. Wakely was . elected chairman and Mr. J. Davidson secretary. Mr. t. Buchanan, who , has held- the position of-secretary for. .several years, declined to again offer his,services, Mr. Davidson thus" being elected unopposed. Air. Wyllic (the headmaster). stated that be,was soiTy that Air. Buchanan had decided not: to seek re-election, as Air. Buchanan had proved a very energetic secretary and had always worked hard for the welfare of the school generally. Air. Ford and the chairman endorsed Air. AVyilie’s remarks, and a vote of thanks was accorded to. Air. Buchanan for, -past services as secretary.
