MR. BRYAN’S EXAMPLE.
. (To the Editor.) Sir,—May I be allowed to express my gratification at the news conveyed by cable on Saturday that Mr. Bryan, the second chief executive officer of that progressive country, the United States, has had tho courage of his, convictions, and announced his objection to tbe use of wine at his table, at the risk of his reputation for hospitality at, public functions. Our late King,Edward nr;j went a long way in the same direction when he announced that there was no, disloyalty in drinking his health in pure water. " After such eminent examples of revolt against customs, more honoured in the breach than tho observance, customs, however, deeply entrenched in the habits of our people, it is to be hoped that our. own public men .will ,seo their way to adopt the great reform.—l am, etc., N. T. MAUNDER.
