THE DRINK BILL.
INCREASE IN NEW SOUTH WALES NEWSPAPER. COMMENT. ' By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received April 30, 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 30. The Herald, commenting on the drink bill, says that very few people who do not directly benefit from the trade can view the very large increase in the ex-, penditure on drink without regret. The lamentable fact remains that all the labour put into the work of reform has not apparently affected either the drinking habits' of the people or the steadily increasing revenue derived from the sale of liquor, in which every person, including the most vigorous opponents of the trade, shares. The Herald pdvocates., as the best remedy for checking the growth of drinking, the elimination of the factor of private profit.
