For play in the Hawke Cup match. South Auckland v, Marlborough, there is fine weather and a good wicket. Auckland has lost one wicket for 125 J. Pomeroy, not out, 88; Ncild, c. Geary, b. Pierpoiut, 9; Glccson, not out, 15; extras, ,13. AUCKLAND v.~HA\VKE’S BAY. NAPIER, March 22. Tho Auckland-II awke’s Bay cricket match was commenced in ideal weather on a perfect pitch. The visitors won the toss and batted, Hcraus and Taylor opening. Tho -latter fell a victim to l.b.w. without scoring.. Sneddon joined Hcmus and tho pair made a good stand till the former was nicely caught bv Fulton; 62—2—19. Somerville helped Hcmus to carry the total to 68 when the latter was well taken by Fairey off Fulton; 68—3—43. Solo made*the stand of the innings, but lost Somerville who fell a victim to Fulton; 94—4—18. Anthony filled the gap and the pair carried tho score to 215 before a separation effected, when Solo skied Macassey to Bottrell, who held tho ball; 2155 —73. Gordon lost Anthony two runs later from a beautiful catch ; 217 —6—54. Gordon 14 and Wright, 20 were unbeaten at tho interval for lunch. THE REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. It is somewhat unfortunate that two teams fully representative of the northern and southern ends ol the province could not have been got together for Monday’s return match between the two associations. There aro notable absentees from each side. South being without the services of McCarthy, Pratt, Ernest Colo and Slinger, while North is taking the field without Hassell, Gwillim, Nieoil or AVeston. The first-named was not asked to play, although available, and Gwillim, who made 144 iu the North v. South match last season, and has been playing well this year, should certainly have been included in the team. The Easter golf tournament is understood to have been responsible, for Nicoll’s absence, and. AVeston is not available. Saturday players are well'represented, no less than eight of the team tielonging to that division. The team is, however, a strong batting side, and should do well in chat department, but it is sadly deficient in bowling- It will, however, probablv prove quite capable of holding its own, and should on paper win rather easily. The representative cricket match North v. South Taranaki will commence on the Sports Ground on Easter Monday at 1.30 o’clock sharp.
