SHOOTING WITH INTENT. Per Press Association* EKETAHUNA, March 19. Before Messrs. Herbert and Haswoll, J. P.’s, to-day, Patrick O’Donnell was charged that on Sunday he did wound William F. Fraser by discharging a gun with intent to do grievous bodily harm to his neighbours. The case was the result of a disagreement. One pellet struck Fraser, inflicting a skin abrasion. Defence was reserved, and accused was committed to the Wellington Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed, himself in £IOO, and one surety of £IOO. A GOOD PERFORMANCE, ' CHRISTCHURCH, March 19. The excellent achievement of the West Coast contingent, which arrived at the Yaldhurst camp at 10 o’clock last night, was the talk of the camp to-day. It is alleged that two men went to a Chinaman’s house in the street, find a quarrel followed, in which two or three Europeans, including a woman, became involved. , The Chinaman, it is said, was struck on the head with a bottle, receiving about a dozen cute on the head and face which required medical attention. To-day the detectives arrested Vincent Furniss, who will _ba charged to-morrow with assaulting Charlie Yung-Sing*in such a way as to cause actual bodily harm. THE CONCILIATION COUNCIL. ’ CHRISTCHURCH, March 19. Before the Conciliation, Council the journalists’ dispute was resumed. The_ union’s demands affecting readers were' withdrawn. Cadet reporters’ salaries were agreed to, viz., first year 30s a week, second 30s, third 40s. An adjournment till April 10 was agreed to, in order that the questions of hours and preference might be reconsidered. >A CHARGE OF PERJURY. WELLINGTON, March 19. As a result of the remarks made by >the Magistrate on the evidence given in a Police Court case recently, a young man named George Williams was charged to-day with perjury. Williams had t>een ? charged with assaulting his wife, and swore that he was not at his wife’s place on the day in question, while the prosecution now allege that be was there. Williams was committed for trial.
