THE ROAD RACE.

BENEFIT ENTERTAINMENT. Picture lovers and the general public will have a most enjoyable evening at the Empire Picture Palace next Tuesday, when the management is giving a benefit performance in aid of the funds of the Taranaki Circular Road Race, and has secured a special programme for that one night. A glance at the advertising columns will convey an idea of the class of pictures that will be screened, and it is safe to say that a better or more brilliant selection has never been arranged on one programme. The famous Edison studio is represented with two masterpiece productions, “Pull for the Shore Sailor,” an exquisite drama of the sea, and “Home,” a beautiful pathetic story, showing how a mother’s love paves her erring boy. The popular Vitagraph Company is noted for the power of its “life pourtrayals” and has certainly excelled in a powerful dramatic picture entitled “A Message from Beyond,” a drama of really magnetic power. The remaining dramatic picture is a naval study “Pro Patna.” The educational side is well represented with “Making Safes,” “Little Maids of China and Japan,” “City of the Mosques” and “The Isle of Elba.” In the comic section much_ merriment will be caused by “An American Marriage,” “Star of the Side Show” and “Caught at Last.” The Taranaki Garrison Band has kindly consented to play a number of selections on the Empire baleens. between seven, and eight.
