ONIONS IN COOL STORE. Per Press Association. TIMAEU. April 17. la April last year Mr. 6. T. Dawson, storekeeper, sent into the cool stores here 20 tons of onions to be kept till September. The onions came out practically worthless, and the owner sued the Cool Storage Company for their value, £ll6. A good deal of evidence was taken, including that of the freezer engineers. Mr. Day, S.M., gave judgment to-day for the defendant company, with costs, on the ground that the onions were not a good keeping sort. THE LYTTELTON STRIKE. CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. The inquiry into the strike at Lyttelton gaol was continued, to-day. A number of prisoners are being punished for insubordination. The inquiry will be continued to-morrow. GREEN ISLAND STRIKE. WELLINGTON, April 17. There is acute trouble in tlie Green Island coal district, seventeen placemen having abandoned work to-day, owing' to the owners’ refusal to repair trucking roads. The union is not under the Arbitration Court.' Steps arc being taken to obtain the support of the Federation and kindred unions. It is possible that a general strike may evenuate.
