Up to the present time tho Government has cabled Home £3374 collected in various districts of the Dominion for tho relief of women and children during the British coal strike. BOOKMAKERS FINED. AUCKLAND, April 18. In the Police Court Lofty Richards, John Weston, Charles Taylor, Robert Porter, and Daniel Twohili all pleaded guilty to keeping gaming houses and were convicted and fined £75 each. Leonard Andrews, clerk of two first named, was fined £25. Persons found on the premises ucre fined £1 each. FORESTERS’ CONFERENCE. - WELLINGTON. April 18. Delegates from all districts of Foresters have assembled at Wellington. They passed a resolution unanimously recommending the formation, of a subsidiary high court for tho Dominion, it was explained that the tacit consent of the High Court of England had been obtained. A resolution of sympathy and condolence was passed with families having relatives on the Titanic, and expressing admiration of the conduct of the olficors, crew and male passengers in nobly sacrificing their lives for Hie women and children. Tho delegates represent 16.000 members. with funds amounting to £280,000. LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. TIMARU, April 18. The Timaunga settlement w;:.- balloted for this morning. Sixteen sections, aggregating 4897 acres were disposed of. but there were no applications for tho other three sections, aggregating 1051 acres.
