THE WAITARA MAYORALTY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. W, F. Jenkins, Mayor of Waitara, was waited on yesterday by a representative deputation when the following requisition was read by Mr. Jas. Rennie, of Rennie and Co. To His Worship the Mayor (W. F. Jenkins, Esq.) Dear Sir, • We, the undersigned' citizens of the Borough of Waitara, have heard with extreme regret that it is your intention not to again offer yourself for the honourable position of Mayor, and we ask you sincerely to reconsider your decision. Since you have occupied the position we fully recognise that a mrge measure of your time has been devoted to the best interests of the advancement of the town. You have initiated and carried out works that cannot l.e altogether gauged by their monetary value, but have proved a blessi-ig to the inhabitants and this applies ’- ore particularly to the water scheme. You, with the council have in hand now twc very important works, viz., drainage and the erection of the bridge, the details of which you are now very conversant with, and the knowledge possessed by you in this respect must be of gret value to the inhabitants, and -11 this account we respectfully ask you to reconsider your decision and allow yourself to be again nominated so that you might see these two important works completed. If necessary we will use our best (endeavours to place you at the head of the poll, and trust under the circumstances you will be good enough to accede to this desire of your petitioners. The requisition was signed by forty ratepayers. Messrs. Rennie, Klenner and Hipango also spoke in flattering terms of the various Works brought to a successful issue under the present Mayor. Mr. Jenkins said it was his serious intention not to contest the honour this year, but teeing the apparent wish of the ratepayers thus expressed he felt that he must accede to this wishes, and would stand for the coming term. (Applause.) ■
