Mrs. C. Carter returned to New Plymouth this morning. Yesterday was the centenary of the birth of Sir George Grey.

Mr. Adolphus Kynadon, of Raglan, is on a visit to New Plymouth. A cablegram from Paris reports the death' of M. Henri Brisson, president of the Chamber of Deputies.

A Christchurch telegram reports the death of Mr. Watkins, principle of the Training College since 1895, at the age of 63 years.

The many friends of Mr. E. A. Golding musical director at the Empire, will be pleased to hear that he is progressing favourably, although, owing to the infectious nature of his illness, it will bo some six weeks before be is permitted to leave the hospital.

Among the list of successful students at the recent New Zealand University examinations, published fully in another column, appears the name of Mr. Pump Grey, son of Mr. Geo. Grey,. of New Plymouth, who passed in Latin, English, jurisprudence and constitutional history. At the New Plymouth Club rooms on Saturday night Mr. Harry Goldwater, who is shortly leaving for Sydney, was presented by the members witli a very handsome smoker’s companion. The president of the club, Mr. W. N. Ewing, made the presentation, and referred in complimentary terms to the respect in which Mr. Goldwater was hold by the members. Mr.' Goldwater suitably replied.
