METHODIST CHURCH.

The circuit quarterly meeting was held on Wednesday night, and there was a fair attendance of officials, presided over by' the Rev, J. W. Burton. A resolution expressing the loss of the church in the death of Mr. C, A, Bonbow, and-of sympathy _ with hi< widow and family, was carried by th< members standing, A letter of symv pathy was directed to bo sent to th a widow and family of tho late Mr, My nott. , . :.

The chairman, in his - opening re< marks, referred to tho new phase ol the “Brotherhood” movement by the Whitoley Church officials. Other churches had joined in with the movement and, instead of its being an effort in connection with one church it would be entirely unsectarian, and the meetings would ho held in the Good Templar Hall. Satisfaction was expressed at this arrangement. Referonco was made to tho successful work being done by tho new deaconess,. Sister Florence, and testimony wai given to the value of her efforts in connection with the Sunday School and among the poorer people of the town. The membership returns showed an increase and the full members of the church now stand at 280. The balance sheet showed a small profit on the quarter—the total credit balance being £7B 1/s 3d. . Mr. W. A. Collis was appointed an additional society steward for the AVhitelev Church. Messrs. W. A. Collis and K. Maunder were appointed delegates to the local Bible Society Council. . Tho-basis of union with the Pnreitimo Methodist Church was unanimously approved, and tho meeting endorsed the action of the conference in thr" matter. Tho resolutions of tho quarterly meetings throughout New Zealand make possible the final arrangements for complete union of the two churches.
