A Sydney cablegram stales that Sir William and Lady Russell are passengers by the Mooltan. Mr. Herbert . Brown, formerly of Wanganui, is at present seriously ill in the Now Plymouth Hospital. The many friends of Mrs. Adeline Biss, late of New Plymouth, will regret to hear ol her death, which occurred at her daughter’s (Mrs. Holt) residence, Oamaru, on Sunday last. The Ven. Archdeacon Harper, who leaves for England next week, haa issued a letter of affectionate farewell to his parishioners and friends, after thirty-six years’ service. Timaru citizens will give him a farewell and purse iu recognition of his public services. A considerable sum has been subscribed. The Rev. F. A. Bennett, of Rotorua, and Miss Alice Hemaua, grand-daughter of the late Major Pokiha, the leading chief of Te Arawa, were married at Gisborne on Wednesday, December 13. The Rev. F W. Chatterton officiated, assisted bv the Rev. Pine Tamahori. The bride was given away by her father, while .Misses TiramaLe Paraone and Theodora Chatterton attended as bridesmaids, and Mr. A. J. Raipara acted as best man.
