(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would ask those opposed to the Defence Act, 1900—whom I am heart and soul with—not to waste time and argument. It is useless longer to view the question as “in vacuo.” This back-against-a-wall business may he heroic, but it docs not much advance matters. I am for the offensive and a forward move upon the rascals, and now’ is the psychological moment; therefore I beg you will announce me as a candidate for the Taranaki seat at the General Election.—l am, etc., R, J. .BAKEIVELL.
