PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting was hold at Eahotu on Thursday, July 13. Pre-' sent: Messrs. Young (chairman), Potter, Harvey, and AVdkox. Tho foreman reported that a drain on Waiteika Road had been blocked up by one of the settlers.—The clerk was directed to write to the party to clear out the drain. / The foreman had inspected Upper Parihaka at Mr. Lysaght’s, and estimated it would cost £9 to clear timber out of the creek and put pipes in to make bridge.—Held over, pending reply from Mr. Lysaght. The foreman’s report stated that a very considerable amount of damage had been done to the Lower Kahui Road by flood water coming off the South Road. The cause of tho trouble was a small culvert near the Methodist Church; this culvert should be double the present size.—Resolved that the County Council bo written to on tho matter. Mr. Potter drew attention to tho damage by flood wmter at end of Opua Road.—The foreman was directed to clean out the drain to take the water to tho creek. "• Messrs. Wright and Son asked permission to erect a gate across Ngariki Road at top end.—The board does not give permission to put gates on roads. Ratepayers on Stent Road petitioned the board to do two chains of metalling at once, and during next summer to do 40 chains of formation. The board decided to do tho two chains of metalling. Tho poundkeeper to be written to that he must not graze any stock 1 in the pound paddock except impounded stock. The chairman was voted 30s, being part expenses in attending the meeting of delegates at Kapuni re railway. Mr. Willcox brought up tho matter of the foreman not living more in the centre of the district. He considered the foreman should live about Rahotu. —The foreman to report ’to next meeting on the position. It was decided to hold a special meeting of tho board next Tuesday, the 18th instant, at 10,30 a.m., to consider the question of striking rates for the current year. It is probable that the board will decide on differential rating for tho wards. Accounts amounting to £704 were passed.
