AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.

POVERTY BAY SHOW. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Oct. 20. Poverty Buy A. and P. Show was completed to-day in the presence of a largo attendance and in fine but dull weather. Entries in the had: and harness classes were particularly strong, and tho quality of the animals excellent. Of draughts there was a small entry, but those shot™ were good. Sheep were fairly strong in all classes, there being a particularly good show of Romneys. In cattle there wore fair entries and keen competition. THE TIMARU SHOW. TIMARU, Oct. 26. The fortv-fifth annual show of tho Timaru A.'and P. Association opened to-day. The proceedings were hampered by a strong, hot nor’-wester in tho afternoon. The sheen and some horses were judged to-day*. The sheep pens were well occupied hy a good selection of various breeds, though there were few competitors in each case. F. H. Smith was the only exhibitor in merinos. Competition was close in English and Border Loicesters, there being four chief exhibitors in each class. In English Loicesters E. Holland was chief prize-taker with D. Grant second. In Border Loicesters W. Grant was first and W. Dowthwaite second. The New Zealand Land Co. was the chief exhibitor and prize-taker in Lincolns, a fine lot. In "Corriedalos the I,and Co. was first and J. Stringfollow a good second. In Romneys, Downs, and Ryolandr. there was only one exhibitor in each class. The prizes for fats were well distributed. Tho special prize for breeding ewes for farmers with, under 1000 acres, by counties, brought only one entry from each of two counties. Only a section of tho light horses was judged today. In carriage horses, harness and polo ponies and hunters, the carriage horses wore of average quality, while tho polo and harness ponies wore particularly good. Elworthy Bros, took first, second and third in polo ponies, and tlicy also annexed all the* first places in tho hunting classes. Tho attendance was on a par with last year’s first day, which was a record for the first day.
