The main street at Cotara is filled with mudheaps, among which tho bodies of women and children are partially visible. Four hundred houses are destroyed, and the rescuers are unable to reach them, tho village sea-front being littered with ruined houses. Amalfi is isolated. A raging torrent suddenly swept a number of houses down from tho higher slopes and carried the inmates into the sea. Fifteen bodies have been recovered.
