PETROLEUM.
TARANAKI COMPANY. Good progress is being made with tho work in hand at No. 1 bore, which has now been sand-pumped down to 2000 foot: Reaming started to-day. No. 2 still flows without variation. At No. 5 the machinery, etc., is all on the ground, and the derrick is in readiness for being covered in. Applications are still being received for tho preference shares, 100 coming to hand this morning, and there is a renewed inquiry re same.
