STRATFORD.

(From Our Resident Agent.) Oct. 22.—The Fire Brigade’s animal meeting and dinner took place last evening. The report and balance sheet disclosed nothing but continued prosperity and usefulness, and the re-elec-tion of Captain Grubb and all the officials was proof positive of harmony amongst the members. The dinner was a success, gastronomically and socially. Another interesting function hold last evening was the annual meeting of the Swimming Club, Dr. Carbory in the chair. The official opening of the season was fixed for November 24. ’ Mr. D. J. Malone is president, with Mr. N. Black secretary. Oct. 24. Farmers who put their names down for imported labour in connection with the immigration scheme fostered by the Dairy Association are wondering when the youths arc to arrive. It will bo a very bad start if a batch of new chums is brought into the country when the stress of the dairy season is over. For all those who arc expecting the boys know, the movement may have been suppressed at tho bidding of Mr. “Tommy” Taylor, -who, if 1 remember rightly, was consumed with anxiety lest the imported boys should bo sweated or valuable billets closed to our own youth.
