This afternoon Captain Newton, harbour master, informed the Harbour Board that ho was making arrangements for a survey of the harbour. Ho intended sweeping the approaches with wire netting with the aid of a couple of motor launches. The sweeping will be carried out to a depth of ton feet, decreasing as the wharf is neared. The survey, Captain Newton added, would bo carried blit most carefully, as when it was completed tho Harbour Board would assume all responsibility for tho safety of the harbour. Tho .return, journey was most enjoyable, as tho party was able to toboggan down tho side of tiro mountain on sacks for a distance of about two miles, tho ladies and gentlemen sitting in file on ono long sack, and tho sensation was most exhilarating.
