A DISTINGUISHED CLERIC.

REV. H. S. WOOLLCOMBE’S VISIT TO TARANAKI. ,* Tho Rev. 11. S. IVoollcomho, M.A., lato head of Oxford House, London, who is to address meetings for men in New I'lynwmth next week, is described as “ono of the best platform speakers of to-day, forceful ami inspiring, with a fund of humour and anecdote.” The reverend gentleman has recently conducted largely attended meetings in the South Island and in Wellington, and at present is in the Nelson district, from whence he conies to New Plymouth. Eloquent testimony to the reverend gentleman’s' fine qualities in private life, i.e., off the public platform, comes from Christchurch, in a letter received this week by a Neiv Plymouth gentleman. Tho following is an extract from tho letter:—“There is a Air. IVoollcombe coming into your neighbourhood. Possibly you know more about bis mission than I do, but I bavo had-tho good fortune to stay in the same house with him for a week during my holidays. I have never mot a mure charming personality, and I strongly advise you to make his acquaintance if you possibly cau. He is one of the most amusing persons imaginable, and as he lias worked in the East of London for some years, as head' of Oxford House, ho knows a great number of amusing Cockney stories, and can tell them inimitably. 1 found that knew all about him, and that, in fact, he was a member of the C.E.M.S., in whose interests Air. Woollcombe is amongst ns.” The Rev. Woollcombe will arrive in New Plymouth next Thursday night.On Friday night he will address a big, meeting tor men in the Theatre Royal, at which his Worship the Alayor will preside, supported by Air. H. Okey, ALP., the Bishop of Auckland, and others. On tho Sunday at 3 p.m. a service for men will be bold in St. Alary’s Church, addressed by Air. AVoollcombe, who ,will also preach at the church in tho evening. Air. AVoollcombe also visits Inglewood on the 19th, AVaitara on the 21st, and Stratford on the 23rd..
