The steamer Sud spoke Dr. Charcot's Antarctic steamer Pourquoi Pas in the Strait of Magellan, and supplied her with fresh provisions. Dr. Charcot refused to give any information regarding his expedition [The Pourquoi Pas, with Dr. Charcot’s second Antarctic expedition (towards which the French Parliament granted a subsidy of £32,000), sailed from Havre on August 15, 1908.' Dr. Charcot intended first to make a collection of fossils, to -which attention was drawn by Dr. Nordenskjold, and afterwards to explore the region lying south of Louhet Island.] GIFT FROM QUAKERS.
