BOROUGH COUNCIL.

OFFICIAL REPORTS. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council will bo held to-night. The following reports will bo presented. ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. This committee reports that it is unable to accede to Mr. Cattloy’s application for permission to erect a sign on the electric light polos as it would create an undesirable precedent. That the action 1 of the chairman in lending certain poles and fittings for the East End Bathing Shed bo confirmed. That the electrical engineer be authorised to apply to the Railway Department for permission to erect a pole and street light in the railway yards near the junction of Queen Street and St. Aubyn Street. That the resignation of W. Simmons be accepted. That consideration of the report of the electrical engineer with reference to the staff be deferred until Monday, 21st inst. That the electrical engineer report to the next meeting what arrangements he proposes to make with reference to carrying on his duties whilst he is away on holiday leave. That the chairman* and electrical engineer bo authorised to employ extra clerical assistance to bring the station hooks up to date and to get out the annual returns. That E. Holden be appointed clerk and meter reader at the distributing station. ABATTOIRS MANAGER’S REPORT. The abattoir manager, Mr. Reakea, reports that during the month there was slaughtered for local consumption 113 cows, 47 bullocks, 10 calves, 519 sheep, 249 lambs, 159 pigs. Compared with the corresponding month of last year there is an increase of 65 sheep. 43 lambs, 26 pigs, and a decrease of 5 cattle, 4 calves and 8 tripes. He has condemned 5 cows. 2 bullocks, 8 pigs and 1 sheep. The receipts amount to £123 2s 6d, an increase of £7 15s 2d. RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee recommends that the South African War Memorial CommiTtee bo permitted to erect a fountain on Marsland Hill, the centre peg of the fountain to be 35 feet from the eastern edge and 40 feet from the southern edge of the hill, the work to bo carried out to the 'satisfaction of the borough engineer. That charge to bo made to the New Plymouth Tennis Club for the use of section 272, Powderham Street, lie Is Od per week the council retaining the right to.use the section as a depot as at present.
