RIFLE SHOOTING.

TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Rifle Association committee was held last night to make arrangements in connection with tho rifle meeting to bo hold on Wednesday and Thursday, February 23 and 24. Upon the question of appointsuggestion was made that rifle clubs should be represented, but Air. Speck explained that most of the club’s office-bearers were shooting men, who ■would he_ engaged in the matches, and thus ineligible. It was decided to ask Captain Kimbell, Lieutenant Turner, and Lieutenant Messenger to act as range officers, and to invite Captain Clarke and Lieutenant Percival to relieve for one day. \ The rifle range trustees will ho asked to fix tho flagstaff, and the Association will provide the necessary flags. Staff-Sergeant-Major Sanderson, tho hen. secretary was instructed to procure three windage flags, and to have targets and other details attended to. Captain Mills was appointed to act as secretary in tho absence of Ser-geant-Major Sanderson. It was decided that match rifles be barred. , A motion was brought forward to adopt the system of one man one target, but an amendment was carried to adhere to last year’s system of two men to each target, with a time limit of 16 minutes. Major Sandford thanked the Association for the use of the range, and for assistance given in the recent cadet matches. Alajor Sandford gave notice to move that 'in future programmes, the competition be confined to tho Taranaki district.
