EGMONT RACING CLUB. SUMMER MEETING. The summer meeting of the Egmont Racing Club opened at Hawera yesterday in glorious weather. There was a largo attendance, the gate being about _£3U bettor than on the last corresponding day last year. The betting, however, showed a falling off, £6806 being passed through the machine, as against £7306 in the preceding year. Twelve bookmakers were licensed at a foe of £ls. Tho racing throughout was interesting, the finishes in tho Cup and the AVaipapa Hack Flat being particularly brilliant. Mr. C. O’Connor was responsible for some fine starts, whilst Mr. W. 11. Hartgill gave every satisfaction in the judge’s box. The course and tho appointments generally were, as usual, in tip-top order, and the arrangements for the meeting were admirably carried out by Mr. Turton, club secretary, and staff. Tho II a worn Borough Band was in attendance, and rendered a good programme during tho afternoon.

Since tho last meeting of tho club some extensive alterations have been macro at the saddling paddock, tho result of which has been to about double tho accommodation. The loose-boxes and stalls are now all in a line at tho far end of tho paddock from tho stand. Most of them aro entirely now. Them aro fifteen roomy loose-boxes and twenty-five stalls. In addition a hos-ing-box, with concrete floor, has been constructed, also a sand-box, situate immediately in the centre of tho buildings. This is covered in. Golden Engle caused some delay at the post, and the “blinkers” had to be brought into use. North East, Sandstream, and Clemora were first away from the barrier, and after a couple of furlongs North East was still in tho lead, with Nicotine and Clemora close up and Golden Eagle, who was slow in moving off. whipping in. • Nearing the straight Clemora was running second, and at the distance held the lead, with Sandstream third. A good finish between Clemora and North East ended in favour of tho former by half a length, about five lengths dividing second and third. Time, Imin. losco. Several of tho field were slow in moving off and tho leaders had twenty lengths lend before one or two had even left tho harrier. Kina showed the way to Redwing and To RotT along the back stretch. At 3 furlongs the favourite, Tc Roti, improved his position and Emblem moved up from tho ruck. The two entered the straight together, but Emblem found the pace too warm and again foil hack. To Roti won I>y half a length and there was a similar distance between Kina and Redwing. Time, Imin 34sec.

Until after passing the stand. Golden Glow hung close up with Mount Cook next and Reumac several lengths behind. Going along the back Golden Glow fell back and Reumac ran into third place and entering the straight Mount Cook was just about on terms with the top weight. Prophet was a strong favourite. Kauroa, Nero and Clemency were in the van at the first jump with Taupo closing up. Coming into the straight the order was Kauroa, Clemency, Taupo. At the next fence Taupo had the lead. Maggie Paul closed up into third place and Taupo and Kauroa were racing strongly together at the distance. Maggie Paul continued to come fast and soon had the lead and then the favourite colours were also seen forging along to the front. Ho came too late, however, and was beaten bv Maggie Paul by a couple of lengths with three lengths between third horse. Time, 2rain 46£sec.

From a beautiful start Astraca was first to take up the load. Ihe order entering the straight the first time was Astraca, Bismarck, Swimming Beit, Tiptoe, Milan, and Sir Prize. The first three passed the stand in a line, and turning into the back stretch Tiptoe was closing up. Ho continued to improve his position, and was in the van at the distance with Sir Prize, who had come up from the rear, next, the big chestnut looked all over a winner hanging on to the rails, Milan put in a great run and won a beautiful race by a nose. Sir Prize, who pulled up lame, was three lengths away third. Time’ 2min. 36sec.

Pcrohna was the first to get into her stride, the colours of Chase Mab and Redwing being next to leave the “ruck.” Going along, tho back Redwing had taken up the running, with Perolina and Bay Paul next. At the throe-furlong post Starboard was moving up and was chasing Redwing into the straight, Perolina being nearly a length behind.
