INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent. 1 ) June 10. — There was a small attendance of ratepayers at the public meeting held in tho Parish Hall last night for the purpose of considering the borough council's sebeme for tho construction of municipal baths. Mr. H. B. Curtis (the Mayor) presided, and after explaining tho object of the meeting, outlined the council's proposals. These Erovided for a swimming bath 75 feet y 45 feet, having a depth increasing from 4ft. 6in. to Bft., and a small bath for beginners 45ft. by sft., with a uniform depth of 2ft. 6in. In addition, the scheme provided for dressing rooms, corrugated iron fence and other requisites, the gross estimated cost being £412. The special rate proposed to be levied would be l-24d in the £, but tho chairman did not think tho special rate should be any ground for objection, as there was every probability of the borough rates being reduced in the near future. Mr. Curtis then entered into a dissertation on the advantages of being able to swim, and said that it was for the benefit of the children principally that he wished to see tho proposals adopted. Mr. H. Thomson also spoke in favour of the construction of the baths, and pointed out that tho special rate was so small that it would make practically no addition to the amount of the present rates. On the motion of "the chairman, seconded by Mr. A. F. Thomson, it was decided to take a poll of the ratepayers, and the meeting then terminated.
