PETROLEUM

OIL AND FREEHOLD COMPANY

A meoting of the directors of the Taranaki Oil and Freehold Company was held this morning. The manager reported that tho indications wore of a very encouraging character, and that he considered it expedient to at once put in the 9in. casing to the full depth of the present boring in order that a water-tight joint might be made before proceeding with the drilling. Excellent samples of oil have been obtained from recent pumpings. Applications for a number of shares were received and allotment made. A transfer at a premium was also passed.

The Bonithon Petroleum Company has been re-formed in Wellington, principally among the original shareholders. It has Deen decided to continue boring another 500 feet, or probably more. Operations were re-started tins week with Mr. L. Keith st'i in charge.
