THE GOVERNMENT'S POSITION.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, 1 March 26. The judgments of ,Mr Justice Edwards in jthree important Native land cases which were argued in Banco in the t Supreme Court in February were received by' the Registrar to-day. The two most important cases have reference to the seizure by the .Government of a piece of land in the Waiotapu district, twenty miles from Rotorua, and of 42 acres at the Okere Falls, Rotorua, under the Public Works Act. His Honour holds that the Government's action in taking these lands was invalid. The Government, it might be explained, has built an electric power-station for the lighting of Rotorua, upon the Okere Falls land. In the third case, the contention that there is a right of appeal from the Native Land Court sitting as a Compensation Court is affirmed.
