TARANAKI DEFEATED. Per Press Association. \ , DUNEDIN, Sept. 10. The Association football tournament for the Brown Challenge Shield was continued to-day. Wellington defeated Taranaki by 4 goals to nil. The weather was cold, and a strong wind prevailed. In the opening stages Wellington attacked; but Carncross put in good work for the defenders, staving off several shots. Taranaki then had an i innings. Eggleston got to Wellington's line, but Wellington soon reversed the j position, and Ash sent a shot over the \ bar. O'Shea missed a splendid chance, but a little later he scored a smart goal. Wellington 1, Taranaki nil. Two minutes later, in djef ending against Reddy, Collingwood conceded a corner. Jackson landed the ball beautifully in front of the goal, and Forbes 'headed it' adroitly into the net. Wellington 2, Taranaki nil. Taranaki then became aggressive, but Wellington cleared without difficulty. From a brisk rally which ensued in front, of Taranaki's goal nothing resulted. There was no further score in the first spell. At the opening of the second spell Wellington attacked, but Carncross, Collingwood, and Stapleton kept them in check. Taranaki eventually rallied, Bullot making a nice run to Wellington's end, but Duigan relieved. A little, later the Wellington forwards romped down ..the, field, and Reddy beat the Taranaki goalkeeper wim a sharp sliot. Wellington 3, Taratnaki nil. Another onslaught by Wellington ended in Carncross saving splendidly, and a bright flash by Taranaki shifted play to their opponents' end, Bullot shooting wide. Shortly before the finish Forbes, aftersome clever play, sent in a fine shot. Wellington 4, Taranaki nil. ' ' -The final between Wellington' and Otago will be played on Saturday.
